Hi.  So, I’ve been avoiding you, sorry about that.  But I’m supposed to do a book review for here, which I (clearly) have not done and *spoiler alert* I totally hated it, which makes it hard to review, which only makes me hate it more.  It’s a vicious cycle.  Also, July was not my best month.  My life right now is a total mess, every single area of my life, starting with my hair and moving on to everything else, is falling apart (although not literally, even in the case of my hair).  And I know I’m probably not making much sense, but I’m freaking out right now and I really don’t know what I’m going to do.  I’m not even sure what I should do, except find a job, but there’s the SAG thing, and I don’t even know.  Plus, I’ve started exercising, which is supposed to make you feel better, but it turns out that when I wasn’t exercising because I thought I didn’t like it, I was totally right.  So now I’m exercising, which I totally hate, but I hate giving up more, plus it turns out that I’m totally weak, and I want to be able to pick up heavy shit, so I’m going to keep doing it.  But I’m not going to like it!  Also I tried to make sourdough starter, but it got all weird, to the point where the internet could not even tell me what was going on.  So I’m trying again, but it looks like the same thing is happening, and since I don’t know what I did wrong I might just have to give up on the sourdough thing for now.  But I did make some really beautiful white bread in the bread pan my sister got me for my birthday.  (My mom got me bread pans for Christmas, but they are unnaturally big, so my sister got me a normal sized one.)  Also, sorry if there are an unusual number of typos here, the spell-check method seems to have changed, and I’m not 100% I’ve got it figured out.  PPS. Did you all watch Dr. Horrible?  Was it not the awesome?  Turns out you can still watch it for free online!  (In addition to downloading it from itunes.)  This is yay because I’ve been listing to a bootleg version of the soundtrack, and really wanting to watch it again, but I am totally broke (more so than usual).  So yeah, I will try to be less avoidant, but no promises, sorry.

I Find Titles Confining (this is a lie, i just never think of good ones) June 5, 2008

Hi internet people! I know I have been gone for a long time, and I’m sure you have missed me terribly, but I have been working very hard, and then I went to Boston for my sister’s graduation, and tomorrow I am going to New Orleans for the weekend. That’s right, I am a jetsetter. I am supposed to be cleaning my apartment today, because I am going on a trip and it is a total mess because I’ve been wrapping all the clothes from the movie I just finished in here, and because I didn’t clean it before the movie started or before I went to Boston. I also need to do my laundry today. But I am not doing any of that because there are people in my apartment doing mysterious maintenance things (they are not here right now, they went to lunch), and I feel weird cleaning my house while they are banging around in my kitchen and bathroom. I actually feel weird doing anything but sitting at my computer, I am just not used to random people being in my house, I always feel weird around contractors, like I should get out of their way and not sit around reading while they’re working. But my plan for today is; clean, laundry, finish disk 4 of Buffy season 7 (and put it in the mail), shower, pack, and go to sleep early. The plan includes the possibility of leaving the house and going to the post office, but that probably won’t happen now, since I’m putting actual work off until my apartment is free of people.

Update: So I just went into my bathroom, and the maintenance people put up my towel rack! It’s been
sitting on the floor since I bought it six months ago.  (Of course, now I don’t know how to get it down, but I don’t really care.)  They also fixed my sink so it drains, and made my window that was stuck shut open.  Do I suspect that they did all this because my lease is up in a month?  Yes.  Do I care?  No.  Am I going to go clean now?  Yes, yes I am.

Mini Update April 25, 2008

So, clearly I need some sort of dictatorial schedule or I will never post at all, but it is late now, so I will leave the schedule making for tomorrow.  I’ve been working on my altered book, which is coming along great, and I’ve got an idea for another one too, I need to start working on my sister’s dress that she asked me to alter (it shouldn’t really take that long, I just have to stop being weird about it), I worked last weekend, and next week I have to prep for two projects that I’m designing (costumes) for.  So yeah, I’ve been keeping busy and having meetings and watching tons of tv.  And now I’m going to bed.

Manic Wednesday April 10, 2008

Man did I have a lot of energy today. First I took out all the trash in my apartment, including the stuff at the back of the fridge, and the dead plant that’s been sitting next to my TV for four months. (Taking out the trash is my least favorite chore, not least because I have to haul it down to the dumpster, and I’m lazy.) Then I drove to: the going out of business furniture store (nothing left), Office Depot (files to get all this crap off my “desk”), and IKEA, where I ended up getting everything except what I went there for (bookcase to get the rest of the stuff of my “desk” so I can stop using air quotes about it, it turned out to be too heavy for me to haul up to my apartment). The people at IKEA must have thought I was on drugs or something because I could not stop smiling and touching things, not to mention darting from one side to the other when something caught my eye. But you really have to be in a manic mood to go to IKEA, because it is so huge and full of stuff (sigh). When I got back I replaced the knobs in my kitchen and started to put up the shelf I got for next to my bed (it’s red and it fits exactly in the space available), but it was late and my neighbor yelled at me for hammering (I had to (well, still have to) put anchors in the wall so the screws wouldn’t come out). I was already feeling really guilty about it, and trying to hammer quietly and infrequently, so I stopped when she yelled (this is also why my apartment is still only half vacuumed). I’m still kind of jittery, and not at all tired, and I kind of understand why Manic-Depressives would stop taking their medication. (is that a bad thing to say? I hope not, I didn’t mean it in a bad way!)

Subduing WordPress to My (Considerable) Will April 8, 2008

As you can see I changed the theme I was using (if you’re reading this in RSS you should click over and look, it’s very nice), and I finally found a text-only LibraryThing widget (on the right and down) and I’m very proud of getting it to match the surrounding box. I decided to mix it up because WordPress has redesigned their backend, and it’s very pretty, all brown and light blue. Of course they don’t have any themes that look like it, but I’m happy with what I picked. The real reason for this post (and the ensuing redesign) is to finally figure out how to post pictures here. I didn’t know that they’d updated the interface, so maybe it won’t be a huge pain in the ass after all.

These are screenshots of the DVD menus from Jekyll, the recent BBC Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde re-imagining/miniseries. I wanted to post them because they’re the first menus I’ve seen that seamlessly integrated the menu options into the image, instead of just having them floating on top. (Turns out one of my screenshots didn’t take, so I just have the audio menu)

Yay! I am awesome.  I’m totally going back and fixing my (much) earlier post where I could not get the picture in.

So, I am continually resolving to write here more, and then I never do. It’s not even the New Years thing, where you keep the resolution for a few weeks and then stop; I resolve to write more often, but I don’t. It’s tragic really. In fact I’m only writing now so I can avoid working on my jeans. (Rationale: I’d only have 40 minutes before Lost (even though it’s only last week’s)). Anyway the progress of the jeans is the only thing people even ask me about anymore, because it’s the only thing I’ve actually been doing in weeks. Which is why I resolved to accomplish one thing (even if it was a little thing) every day, and I made a list and everything. And todays is work on my fucking jeans. I’m just worried about them, and I’m on the waistband, which stretches a different way from the pants, and I spent hours last time fussing around with them (and basting, which I never do) and the pants are all wrinkled across the back, and I’m afraid that when try them on it won’t go away. Right, anyway. So I haven’t been doing anything, although I will be going back to work a week from Monday (fingers crossed, knock on wood etc.). Also Firefox is being a bitch and a half to me, and I want to smack it. Although I sort of suspect it’s because I try to open too many windows ans tabs at once. But there are somethings that I want to go back to, and if I bookmark them and close the window I will never see it again. But I am trying to get some of them closed. For someone who sits at home all day doing nothing, I have a lot of stress. I was also going to write about these really cool DVD menus I saw, but I haven’t taken screenshots of them yet, and I still cannot get pictures into my posts. It is allegedly very easy, but it refuses to work for me (bastard). So I know I posted those TV personality quizzes last time, but I looked for a Veronica Mars one and they did not have one, and this is one of the things that has been clogging up my dock, so:

That’s right bitches! While was taking it I thought that I was probably too much of a Good Girl to get Miss Mars herself, but I just remembered that she totally was a good girl until that whole best friends murder/social outcast/quest for vengeance thing. And when I went to get the code for that I ended up at another quiz (I swear, it’s like crack):

And really, he’s basically the male, futuristic, space-western, version of Veronica Mars.
So I’ve got to go put my Netflix in the mail before (last week’s) Lost, (also, grrr Netflix for not being open on Sat). Later.
